Our Literacy Coaches use The Barton Reading and Spelling System, which is a structured literacy approach that applies a multisensory, systematic, and sequential method to teach reading, writing and spelling. It emphasizes explicit instruction, breaking down language into smaller components and engaging multiple senses to facilitate learning.

Unlike more discovery-based methods, explicit instruction emphasizes clear, direct teaching of specific skills and strategies. This approach ensures that students are not left to infer or guess how to read or understand text and we find it especially beneficial for early readers, struggling readers, and students with learning differences, such as dyslexia.
